The ten minute play showcase was faboo. My play was last (“a place of honor” Chris wrote in an email, which I initially read as “a place of horror”), and while I thought that might make me nervous and keep me from enjoying the other plays, I wasn’t nervous at all. I was much more interested in seeing how the other plays evolved during rehearsals. By the time my play came up, I was a little zoned out and I think I only would have noticed people not laughing in the right places.
It’s been a long, long time since I was part of any kind of performance. I had forgotten about the wonderful energy around it, and since my part was already done, I could sit back and enjoy it. And I did.
I got some very nice compliments on the play. One person told me I should be writing for TV, which immediately sparked an internal debate.
Humble Lauren: She thinks I’m funny enough to write for TV! Yay compliments!
Pretentious Lauren: Um, are we sure that was a compliment?
Humble Lauren: She thinks we’re funny enough to be famous. Stop it.
Pretentious Lauren: I dare you to sit through the second half of Saturday Night Live.
But more importantly, I looked really, really good.
Unfortunately, however, my brains were still in Playland when I went to my job interview this morning. My energy was way off, and I’m pretty sure I blew it. Oh well. Time to fill out that temp agency application.
