Today I ran the Baltimore Running Festival 5k. My goal with my trainer was to finish under thirty-four minutes (slow!), although my goal personally was to finish under thirty-three (slightly less slow!). I hit one of those, at 33:50. I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, during my five week training program, I was flat-out sick for week one, recovering for half of week two, and I blew out my back on Tuesday of week four, causing me to miss four of my six peak training days. So, I came into the race having run only one day in the past ten. And it’s only my second race, so I can’t be too hard on myself for my pacing being a little off in the last mile. On the other hand, I can’t help but think how much better I would have performed without my unfortunately timed illness and injury.
The good news is that even with the missed training, I was much better prepared for this race than the first one, and I know now how much of a difference the right kind of training can make. So, onward and upward. When is the next race?

You DO rock. Congrats on the race!
