O-pening Day
The opening day ceremonies and national anthem at Camden Yards made me all weepy. I am such a sucker. But, did I imagine it or did the crowd boo Biden throwing out the first pitch? Aside from the respect issue, Baltimore is overwhelmingly Democratic. What the hell? Totally disappointing behavior. I might as well be back in Philly.
And furthermore, the weather is almost exactly the same as it was opening day last year. Windy, damp, and cold.
Matzoh Brei
Last week I came up with a version of my Aunt Bertha’s matzoh brei, which was delicious. And with the delicious matzoh brei, I’ve reached a milestone: I believe I have become a real cook. I can take a recipe, use my own set of ingredients, and make it work. Just like my grandmother and aunts would have taken a conventional recipe and made it kosher, I’ve come far enough to be able to able to make good stuff happen with the kind of ingredients I use. I want to give it one more run through tomorrow, then I’ll post it. It’s freaking fantastic. In the meantime, I’ll post this:
Chocolate Covered Matzoh
1/2 cup vegan margarine or butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
4 boards matzoh
1 – 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
kosher salt
Heat the oven to 350. Melt the margarine and brown sugar in a sauce pan, bringing it just to a boil. Place matzoh on a cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray. Spread the sugar mixture over the matzoh and bake for 11 minutes. Remove from oven, sprinkle a pinch of kosher salt over each board of matzoh, and distribute the chocolate chips over the four boards. Place everything back in the oven (turned off) for two minutes. Remove, spread the chocolate with a knife, and chill. Yum. Optional: sprinkle toasted walnuts over the melted chocolate.
eBay
It’s April. The weather is starting to warm up a bit, and I am spending a ridiculous amount of time looking at vintage sundresses on eBay, even though I won’t be able to wear them for another month. Or two. I’m trying to keep myself under control. So far: one with bright yellow stripes, and one with a banana print. And two pairs of sandals. Time for warm weather.
