What We Talk About When We Talk About Pug

Scott and I have this thing about naming animals. At the beach, we met Stu Crabson and Little Joe Crabstein, Myrna Turtle, and Shecky Gecko. We’ve encountered Herbert Slug, Earl Seagull, and Bob Crow at various times. I don’t know how or why we started doing this. On a walk recently, we saw a pug barking at an open door, and decided that the best female name for a pug is Stella Pug, and also came up with this completely amazing male pug name, a name so great that I was ready to run home and hit the pug rescue sites to find myself that particular pug. Of course, now neither of us can remember it, so we spent another whole walk trying to think of pug names we thought of already. High class worries, as they say. Anyway, all of this to say that it was eerily serendipitous finding out that just a few days ago, Scott’s friend Darrin inherited a pug named Stella.

In other pug-related news, my puggle stewarding cousin just had a (human!) baby*. This is the first new addition to that side of the family since my cousin herself, which I don’t remember because I was five months old when that happened. I am so happy for Jill, and excited because:

a) I have a new relative!
b) Babies are cool!
c) I didn’t have to do ANYTHING to get a brand new baby relative!
SO:
d) All of my cousins need to begin reproducing immediately. Especially the local ones.

Seriously, go to it.

*I was close. The baby was born on the evening of 4/10. Pretty good, especially considering she was a few weeks early.
