Travels I

We didn’t want to say anything as we cruised past the exits for the Christiana Mall in Delaware, or when the traffic jam at the entrance to the blue route parted after just a minute or two. In fact, the eerie lack of traffic on 95, the blue route, and NE extension (aka the NE.F. extension) made me wonder if our trip north was divinely favored. Only, instead of parting the red sea for our travels, there was a parting of the blue route.

Off the highway, winding through quaint neighborhoods of old victorian houses, antique shops, and an honest-to-god five and dime store, I spotted a naked man in a window, filming the cars driving past. Hell of a harbinger for a weekend with my family. That, and not five minutes into the drive, my grandmother saw fit to point out that there are black people in my neighborhood. “Yes,” I said. “There are black people everywhere.” I’m not sure exactly what it is about the aging process that makes old Jews so damn racist. Maybe as they get older and start shrinking the racism is just more heavily concentrated.
