Moments

After taking a class at Towson this morning, my fellow teachers and I found the manager in hysterics at the front desk. Moments before, she learned that one of her best friends was murdered. We told her to go home once she was able, I called the owner of the studio and let him know what happened, and we sat there with her until she decided she wanted to be outside, alone. Half an hour later her boyfriend arrived to get her things and take her home.

Of course it stuck to me. I just sat with a person I barely know during one of the most devastating moments of her life, and then there is the whole fragility of life, mortality, and so on. But then, I went home. I hung laundry outside, there was an unexpected rainstorm and the laundry and I both got soaked, I went grocery shopping, picked up our CSA share for the week, and had dinner. The dogs barked a lot. Those were the moments of my day.
