This weekend marks several milestones.
I. Movement
I had to buy new stickers yesterday. A couple of years ago I started marking my exercise for the day with a sticker on the calendar, whether that exercise was lifting weights, yoga, a long walk, run, whatever. I started because I was tired of keeping a log of everything I did, but at the same time wanted to make sure I was still moving. Over time it became a delight to look back over a week or month and see lots of stickers, especially during those times when I was grumpy because I felt like I wasn’t doing anything. I started with a pack of star stickers that I had been carting around since high school, and after a few hundred of those, went to little circles that said “Way to go!” and “Great Job!” and “You Did It!” Corny, I know, but when I put the last of the little circles on the calendar this week, I took some pride in knowing that it was workout number 720 since I started the pack. This time, I bought heart stickers, because after all, it’s an act of love for myself, right? (And they’re pretty.)
II. Lack of Movement
Yesterday marked the longest I’ve spent in any one dwelling since I left my parents’ home: 2 years, 28 days. No plans to move any time soon, either.
III. Lack of Crazy, Jittery Movement
This weekend also marks one year without caffeine (Except, of course, for the caffeine present in chocolate, which doesn’t count.)

interestingly, i had a similar exercise tracking system a few years ago. whenever i would use my hand weights, i would put a sparkly penguin sticker on the calendar. it was highly motivating to see all those little penguins.
I can see how sparkly penguins would be motivating. For a while, Scott had kittens, and when he ran out of kittens, he got an assortment of dogs. This is one weird couple of sentences.
