Misc. Fall

Over nineteen days I plowed through all seven of the Harry Potter books, averaging 220 pages per day. I think the last four were all last week, which partly explains the radio silence. And, all of the laying in bed reading until 1 am every morning made doing things like going to yoga classes and anything else that involved more effort than sitting kind of unappealing.

Fall has come on eerily fast this year. I noticed trees starting to change earlier this month, and now, on this cool, breezy day, some of the trees are already a good bit gold. I was marveling at the change as I drove through Mt. Vernon this morning. When I came home from teaching, I looked up through my sunroof in the driveway, and the undersides of the leaves of the oak outside our house are already thoroughly faded from their summer vibrancy.

All that, and it’s the first day of school here, which is exciting to me every year because YAY, school supplies and new shoes. Fall is a time to reinvent. Who will I be this year?

Half my neighborhood seems to be home today, mowing their lawns. One of the neighbors is using a tractor to mow a twenty by twenty patch of grass.

  1. James Potter says:

It’s almost a shame to read them so quickly…but that seems the only way TO read them.

The Jim Dale audio book versions are wonderful, too – even if you don’t do audio books. I’ve listened to them all repeatedly.

It was a very enjoyable compulsion, and I am sure I will read some of them again (in a more measured way that doesn’t cut into precious sleeping time). Thanks for the recommendation about the audiobooks. Maybe something to keep in mind the next time I am preparing for a long drive.
