What was planned: a jaunt to Saugerties for a lovely, casual, Labor Day weekend wedding. What happened: sewage took a jaunt up the pipes and necessitated a costly, emergency replacement of the line out to the street. I recognize that this isn’t interesting to anyone who isn’t me, but for $4,400, I want pictures. And a cake. Maybe I’ll go make a cake. Anyway, pictures!

The excavation begins.

Look, dirt! And evidence of why there are no root vegetables in our garden. We sow rocky soil. Like pilgims, we are.

Backhoes are kind of cool.

The pile of dirt gets bigger

And bigger.

All the way out to the street, now.

That is the section of pipe that was damaged.

And THIS is what damaged it, displayed by a friendly (and somewhat repulsed) plumber. That would be a mass of tree roots and... stuff.

In under three hours, the new pipes were set, and we had plumbing again! Needless to say, we were flush with excitement. But...

... we're stuck with a big dirt pile until the inspector shows up to check the work midweek. But at least I don't need to run to Giant anymore to use the restroom.
And lastly, an obligatory joke about the big hoe in my yard.
