Everything is slowing down. We’re less than two weeks from the solstice now, and I am trying to remember exactly how it was that I did things like get up and go to a job that was not in my house, and get to the gym every day at this time of year, back when I used to do those sorts of things. I am in hibernation mode, and looking for a little balance so that I can still meet my obligations and be a productive member of society.
One thing I know is that this should not involve cookies. There have been way too many cookies. Also, I’m thinking maybe Maryland and Georgia could trade places for a several decades? We got some snow on Saturday, and on Monday I had to use the ice scraper for the first time this year. As I was brushing the snow off my car (and onto my birkenstocks and socks -bad planning) I thought that yes, I have seen snow this winter, I have used my ice scraper, so we’re done, right? The full experience, and now it can be sixty-four degrees until April. Right? I never thought I would be this much of a wuss about winter, but after spending two winters in Boston, one winter in Minneapolis, and one winter out on the plains, I think it is safe to say that I know a thing or two about winter, and if it is not going to be -14 and snowing, it better damn well be spring. Having snow on the ground all winter is actually easier, because it makes the most of the available sunlight.
If the weather clears before dark as it is supposed to, I think I really need to get outside, regardless of the other things I have to do today. And then I need to get my arse back in a hot yoga class. Heat. Yes. Wake up.
To keep myself accountable, here is what I need to do before the end of the year:
1. Finish the paper for my teaching certificate.
2. Write the new copy for the MWA site, which has been on my list since, eh… September?
3. The usual work responsibilities.
4. Finish the story I am working on right now, which is hilarious, light, just dirty enough, covers three of my favorite topics, and unfortunately I can’t post it here.
5. Spend my leisure time re-reading as much of Harry Potter as I can manage, while still getting sleep.
6. Update my yoga site, lots.
7. Not do things like sit down to write an incredibly boring blog post, then get distracted by the fact that I have to pay the electric bill, write the check, and then realize that, oops, I forgot to pay my credit card bill which is why I should never, ever put things on credit cards, and oh crap, the emissions inspection for my car is due today, so now I need to assemble myself and drive out to Owings Mills, and who the hell ever decided that I was qualified to run a household?
