Brave New Wednesday: Let Sleeping Dogs Lie Edition

On the way back from teaching yesterday morning, it occurred to me a few blocks from my house that playing with the big shiny new lens I have yet to use with my camera would be a good new thing to try for Brave New Wednesday. The photographic impulse was validated as I pulled into the driveway and was met by butterflies feasting on my neighbor’s lilac bush. I hurried inside and got out the good camera, although I didn’t have time to attach the new lens – these were taken with the 18-55 mm lens.

This butterfly does not want you to feel sorry for him. He got around perfectly well, thanks, even with the busted up wings.

Later in the afternoon I did attach the new lens with the idea of taking some close-up shots of bees from a safe distance because bees are both awesome and terrifying. I didn’t have a lot of success with it, though. Perhaps I should read those direction things that came with the lens. I did, however, learn that a great big lens can be quite useful for taking very close-up pictures of a sleeping dog while letting it lie.

Love these pictures! We were recently in Costa Rica. I wish I could have had a good lens with me while in the rain forest. There were so many beautiful butterflies.
I enjoy your posts when I have the time to have a look. The pace of life at my house really slows down during the summer. Yeah!
    Peace,
