The election was big and important. I have nothing to articulate that has not been well articulated many times over.

But this happened: while I was watching CNN and waiting for Obama’s speech, I read “President Elect Obama” as “President Elect-O-Rama,” on my itty-bitty TV, and wondered what the hell kind of sub-culture vernacular CNN was using to win over viewers. Really, weren’t the holograms enough of a blatant appeal to the ever-important liberal trekkie demographic? Anyway, I figured it out, and now I know what I’ll be calling every general election for the next few dozen years.

Regardless of what I think of the results, it pisses me off election results of closed states are made public before the polls close nationally. It’s not going to change any election soon, but criminy.

Over the past couple of years I’ve seen an increasing number of rear windshields with stencils that read something like “In Loving Memory of Marcel Gundersen 1874 – 2006.” What the hell? WHAT is in loving memory? The windshield? The car? Was the dearly departed a windshield fetishist? Upon his passing, did his friends all get together and decide that the one thing he would have wanted more than anything in this world is a 1989 Toyota Corolla with one Frankendoor from the junkyard with his name on it? Dang, people, what the hell?

You know what else? I’ve had it with the Penn Stater. As far as alumni magazines go, it’s pretty good, but every issue opens with two pages of dueling letters to the editor alternately accusing the publication of being a Tool of the Liberal Media!, and accusing the people doing the accusing of being Tools of Right-Wing Mind Control!. Threats of subscription cancellation are bandied, followed by one letter from some one who was absolutely appalled by what was on the cover. I think I’ve had it with righteous indignation. It’s my least favorite form of indignation. But it’s contagious, because after this month’s litany of chest pounding letters to the editor (A Nittany litany, perhaps?), I considered writing a letter to the editor about this very thing and canceling my subscription. Only now, on principle, I really can’t do that.
